Granted, those are women sharing their experiences, however to be fair, men are experiencing a lot of this as well. Do you find yourself, much like Alice In Wonderland, attempting to peer into or jump through the looking glass, desperate for answers, while the man in your life seems to care less? I get a lot of questions posed to me from the post referenced above. When men behave peculiar towards women, women have a tendency to blame themselves. This is not Prince Charming gals, this is a man waving a giant red flag in your face. How could he be?

He has adjusted to school very well and the teachers who are also expats from England are also dealing with him extremely well. My current issue is his anger. I have tried to tell him to breathe but his meltdown is so intense that his body just can’t listen to words.

Or perhaps a diagnosis of mild autism was made, and even well intentioned parents were unsure how to act on it. Whether diagnosed or undiagnosed, it often means a life of struggle during social interactions, work, and in family or romantic relationships. The resulting realization and diagnosis can be a tremendous relief, followed by a daunting look toward the challenges ahead. There may be a sensed coldness or lack of connection between loved ones.

They often continue the tendency to hold conversations that feel one-sided, robotic, or monotonous. They often obsess over hobbies that involve collection and classification, less as a social activity and more as something they enjoy in isolation. They are often highly intelligent and have a singular skill or expertise in their passions, but might be labeled strange, slow or antisocial nonetheless. For one, relationships can be trying for both parties involved.

For the person with the disorder, it can feel as though a partner or family member is never satisfied with the level of emotion being expressed. And on the other end, there will be a sense that the person is shut off, overly rational, or excessively vigilant about details.

Asperger’s in Adults

It’s so beautiful, so wonderful, it takes your breath away. Like any other romantic couple, two adults who are in love in an Asperger’s relationship are on cloud nine when they first meet. Reality sinks in once the emotional high wears off, and if there are not some tools for navigating the journey, Aspie-NT couples may find themselves at-risk. For the purposes of this article, I am going to cover the subject of Aspie-NT one adult with Asperger’s and one adult who is Neurotypical. Helping my son is so much easier these days. I only wish I had found all of this out years ago. Although my story has a positive ending, I met many people during my research whose stories were not ending well. They were struggling to make it through each day, constantly sick with worry that something horrible would happen to their loved one before the Aspergers was brought under control. They were struggling to answer questions like: With the information I learned, I would be able to help other families overcome, and even prevent, the tremendous obstacles my son has had to conquer.

When they heard that I had done all of this research and that I was helping my son, they started asking for my help, too. If I could have had everything in some type of report or book, then things would have been so much easier for me, my wife … even my son. As with all autism conditions, Asperger’s is a spectrum condition, and will affect different people in different ways. This means that different people with the condition will have different levels of need and require different amounts of support.

It is not yet know what causes a person to develop Asperger’s, but it is thought there is a genetic element to the condition. What are the signs of Asperger’s? People who have Asperger’s and other conditions on the autism spectrum often have problems with social communication and interaction. People with Asperger’s often have good language skills, in contrast to those with other autism disorders, but they still find it hard to understand the expectations of others within conversations.

The National Autistic Society says people with the condition have difficulty understanding non-verbal language like gestures, and have a very literal understanding of language. They may find it difficult to understand facial expressions, tone of voice, jokes and sarcasm as well as abstract concepts. This means at times they may appear insensitive, or appear to behave in a way thought to be socially inappropriate.

Many people with Asperger’s also develop a highly specific interest in a very particular subject or activity. This could be separate from any interest in the wider subject – such as collecting the serial numbers of trains without having a wider interest in trains themselves. They may also experience sensitivity to things like sounds, smells or lights.
